All Academic Courses are now running in OWL Brightspace. 

Project Phases

  • Phase 1: Planning and Communication (Spring - Summer 2022) - Completed
  • Phase 2: Community Feedback and Requirements Assessment (Summer - Fall 2022) - Completed
  • Phase 3: LMS Selection (Request for Proposal) (Fall 2022 - Spring 2023) - Completed
  • Phase 4: LMS Implementation and Training (Spring 2023 - Fall 2024) - Completed
  • Phase 5: Course Migration, Training, and Support (Fall 2023 - End of 2024) - Completed 

Key Project Milestones

  1. August – October 2022: Community feedback and requirements gathering (surveys, listening sessions)  
  2. November 17, 2022: RFP posted  
  3. Mid-late January 2023: Evaluations and vendor shortlist   
  4. February 2023: Vendor demos, sandboxes, and final evaluations  
  5. February – April 2023: Final selection, negotiations, TRAC review  
  6. May 2023: Decision on LMS and Announcement  
  7. January 2024: Early Adopter Program Begins, Spring/Summer instructors choose course migration options and receive sandboxes
  8. February/March 2024: Spring/Summer 2024 courses migrate.
  9. April 2024: Fall/Winter migration options are selected.
  10. May 2024: Spring/Summer courses taught in OWL Brightspace.
  11. June 2024: Summer courses begin in OWL Brightspace. Fall migrations continue.
  12. September 2024: Fall/Winter 2024/2025 courses run in OWL Brightspace.
  13. January 2025: Winter courses run in OWL Brightspace.

 

Data in OWL Sakai

Historical course content and student data (including grades, forum posts, and assignments) will not be migrated into OWL Brightspace for the purpose of retention. Access has been removed to this content as of April 30, 2026. Contact the WTS Helpdesk if you need support.

Please be aware that Western has a Data Classification and Handling Standard regarding the use and sharing of data, including student data.
